This year of 2020 has brought on a lot of changes for us all. In terms of travel, it pretty much brought things to a stand still for many parts of the world. We’ve had an RV for a while and this year it was put to good use! Traveling in an RV has been an option for us to get from point a to point b in this late summer. Normally, by September each year, my mom and sister have done some traveling back and forth to southern California with me or we take another kind of vacation together. That couldn’t happened this year so just last week, I took my mom and sister on a RV vacation in Northern Arkansas-Southern Missouri region of Table Rock Lake. We lucked out when it came to the weather! The daytime temps were in the mid 80’s and it cooled down to the 50’s in the evening which made for perfect campfire conditions! (Yes, I actually built a fire and it started with just a little kindling and a lighter!) Table Rock Lake area is gorgeous and the trees are just beginning to change colors. My guess is Table Rock Lake is a fantastic place to go any time of year! Let me share some suggestions on traveling to that area and some inside views into RV travel…KJ style of course!
First, I don’t claim to be an expert RV’r! We have had our class C motorhome for 8 years and it only has 27,000 miles on it. Many of those miles, I wasn’t even on the trip so that should tell you how easy driving a class C motorhome is. I find it really easy to do. A side note-I have driven a class A 46 foot motorhome before (diesel pusher) and absolutely loved it!! However, I need something like that like I need a hole in my head so thankfully, I left the dealership not owning it but know that they are really great and nice to drive. If you are thinking of buying an RV for a social distance style of traveling in these coming months or years or simply renting one, I think it makes for a great way to see our country and for some fun adventures!
The RV Resort on Table Rock Lake
http://www.ozarksrvresortontablerocklake.com/
We chose to stay at Ozarks Resorts on Table Rock Lake. It is a luxury RV resort located right on Table Rock Lake. We rented a waterfront premium space. I would suggest renting one of those for the best water views. Our space not only faced the lake, but we also had part of the golf course between us and the lake. The view was spectacular! Each RV space is privately owned so the upgrades and amenities of each space differ. The resort is ran by a professional HOA management team. Their level of service is top notch and so very friendly. They escort you by golf cart to your space upon your arrival and are available at the office for any questions you might have. There is a small snack shop there for ice, water, drinks, and snacks. The main clubhouse sits on the hillside and the wrap around balcony boasts amazing views of the lake. Up at the clubhouse, you will find the tennis courts and pickle ball courts. They have golf carts you can rent as well to get around the community or when playing golf on their 9 hole course. Things we needed during our stay such as firewood, bag of ice, etc, they happily delivered to us. Valet trash pick up each morning was also a nice touch. Staying here was the easiest and nicest RV stay I have ever experienced!
Cricket Creek Marina
Right across the lake from the RV Resort at the Ozarks, was Cricket Creek Marina. Our RV resort had a complimentary boat dock, which someone from the marina picked us up at, took us to the marina and we rented our boat with them. I did book the boat rental ahead of time. I would recommend always booking boats in advance. Their rental season for boats is about to end but will open back up next spring. Everyone we met working at Cricket Creek Marina was incredibly helpful and nice. They spend a lot of attention on customer service that is very apparent. A bonus at the marina is they make pizza too! Be warned…once you walk in and smell the pizza, all you want is pizza!!!
Table Rock Lake
While we were out on the lake, we traveled one day all the way to Kimberling City, Missouri. The scenery at this lake is beautiful with lots of cliffs and hills to look at along the shoreline. So many coves to hang out in for the day too. The lake isn’t known much for shoreline beaches so plan to anchor out in a cove if you want to stay put for a while. We packed lunch and lounged in a cove each day while working on our tan too. We passed several marinas while out on the lake so there are many places to stop for gas or anything else you need. From the water we saw the beautiful Big Cedar Lodge. It is basically the largest thing you will see from the water. It’s huge! You can’t miss it when you cruise by on the lake. Big Cedar Lodge will be the next place I go check out in that area for sure!
RV Travel During This Covid Awareness Climate
RV travel gives you an opportunity to do some traveling, get out of the house, socially distance and stay in your own space while on the road. On this trip the only times I had to be around others was stopping for gas and sometimes having to go inside the convenient store and of course I masked up. Most of the places we stopped at for gas had signs on the door that require a mask to enter anyways. RV travel may continue to become more popular in the coming months if it gives people more comfort when traveling. For RV travel, the most work comes into play when you first arrive to your destination and have to get set up. The connections to water, sewer, electric go pretty quickly. Then setting up your outdoor area or unloading what you need from the storage compartments is part of the fun of the vacation!
