At some point, we’ve all felt like we’re falling behind—especially at the start of a new year when fresh goals and high expectations can make us question if we’re doing enough. But here’s the truth: progress isn’t always about big, flashy wins. Sometimes, it’s just about showing up, taking small steps, and staying in the game. And guess what? That’s enough.

The Power of Small Wins

It’s easy to measure success by big milestones—landing a promotion, hitting a fitness goal, or achieving something tangible. But what about the moments in between? The ones where you choose to get out of bed on a hard day, set a boundary, or take even the tiniest step toward your goal? These moments matter. They build on each other and, over time, create real change.

Progress is Like Planting a Garden

You're Already Doing Better Than You Think, The Kristi Jones Podcast Show
small wins add up to big growth…

When I was a kid, my family had a small garden, and I remember how much patience it required. We’d plant seeds, water them daily, and carefully pull weeds to protect the growth. At times, it felt like nothing was happening. But slowly, almost imperceptibly, things started to sprout. And eventually, we had a thriving garden.

Life works the same way. The work you’re putting in now—those seemingly small, insignificant efforts—are laying the foundation for something bigger. Just because you don’t see immediate results doesn’t mean growth isn’t happening.

Celebrate Where You Are

Instead of focusing on what you haven’t done, take a moment to acknowledge what you have accomplished. Think about one small thing you did this week that made a difference, no matter how minor it may seem. Maybe you spoke kindly to yourself, made time for rest, or took the first step on a project you’ve been putting off. That’s a win.

This year, I’ve started keeping a “Wins in a Jar”—writing down small victories on slips of paper and collecting them in a jar to reflect on later. It’s a simple habit, but it’s already shifting my perspective. Every little win counts.
